Good – Swapping out a 26k training run for a half marathon. Who needs to run those extra 5 kilometres anyway, right?
Bad – Running more than 20k in the winter. In Canada.
Ugly – Running a half marathon the morning after a snowfall. BALLS!
Good – PLOWS! SALT! CLEAR ROADS! I <3 TO!
Bad – Those things not being present in Burlington.
Ugly – Um. Running in Burlington.
Good – Wearing compression socks to run in. After all, they go to your knee and will keep the lower part of your legs warm!
Bad – Wearing your awesome socks while trudging through a snow-filled street.
Ugly – Hey! It’s warming up a little! The snow is melting. And look at all of those potholes. ACK! GIANT PUDDLES! Hello, sogginess UP TO MY KNEES!
Good – Running a race a little slower than race pace. HIGHLY enjoyable.
Bad – Running a race that much more slower because you’re running in the tire ruts on the street. One of the most boring streets you’ve ever seen.
Ugly – Running a race with a few thousand others and doing so almost single file. WTF?!
Good – Cheers from your running pals who came out to motivate you. They even brought adorable kiddies!
Bad – Your running pals smack talking you with a few hundred metres to go. Uh, thanks guys.
Ugly – Your running pals also have a cowbell.
Good – VICTORY DONUT!
Bad – VICTORY DONUT!
Ugly – VICTORY DONUT!
All in, I’ll never run Chilly again. It was an expensive race with super poor conditions. However, it was my 10th half marathon. GO ME!
Let’s hope Around the Bay at the end of the month isn’t as crappy.
