Lookie, lookie - what came in the mail the other day... OOOOOOOOOOH! New Runner's World! The WEIGHT-LOSS SPECIAL (insert roll of eyes here). According to the headlines, you too can lose FIVE pounds in a month. My coworker actually scoffed at that headline saying she wanted to lose five pounds TODAY. Don't we all, sister. Don't we all! So I threw the magazine in my bag and didn't pay much attention to it as I tend to occupy myself with podcasts or games on my TTC ride to work. But then the magazine slipped out of my bag yesterday afternoon and I saw the glossy ad gracing the back of the mag... Um...What's wrong with this picture? Cupcakes...on a runner's magazine...that's touting weight-loss tips and tricks...with the word crave so subtly underneath the images of the evil treats...SELLING A CAR. Seriously? SERIOUSLY?? I don't know whether to pat the ad company on the back for smart placement and timing or be totally annoyed for exploiting people's emotions and feelings in an issue that is focused on improving health. Thoughts?
