We all know that I'm a big fan of hot yoga. I used to go to Moksha classes weekly as it provided a GRRRRREAT stretch (and helped me sleep like a baby). So when a new studio called iAM Yoga opened just a couple of blocks away from my place, I was intrigued. AND THEN they went and decided to host FREEEEEE classes all this week. You know I'm all about the free stuff =P So I collected my exercise partner in crime Jammer to come check it out with me. Now, Jammer's only yoga experience was the hatha class that I took her to at the gym, so this was going to prove VERY interesting. Especially after she asked me if it was ok to wear pants to the class. The studio itself is gorgeous; dark floors, subdued lighting and a fully stocked change room. It seemed a little more high-end than the rooms at the Moksha locations that I've been to (granted, I haven't been to the newer downtown space to know for sure). In we went, met by a wall of heat and a darkened room. Jammer's uneasiness with it all was evident as she didn't seem to want to lay still and wait for the class to start. And when it did, I think that she spent most of the time praying for it to end. For me, the 60 minute class went by quickly. Given that it was a free class, there were a lot of people there that were new to the practice and our instructor took the time to go over poses and sequences a few times to ensure that everyone got it right. There were a few sequences I wasn't used to and wanted to do other poses going by what I have learned before, but I did find it very beneficial and fast moving. Too fast for beginners. Jammer just found it a pain. Literally. Her poor wrists couldn't take all of the planks and downward dogs and I don't think she's a fan of sweating. I think it's time to fire Jammer from her position and seek applications for a new gym buddy. Any takers? There's just a little pain and some sweat involved. I promise, no blood!
