At least someone is getting out there on a bike

So I'm wasting away here on my couch, watching BAAAAAAAAAD daytime television and sort of wishing I was at work (sick, I know). I'll eventually get my ass off the couch to go for a run, maybe I could FINALLY go for a bike ride, but right now I'm watching the news and an item comes on about childhood obesity. Of course, my ears perk up like a pup's at the chow bell but there's a twist to this story. It's not about cold hard stats or scary facts. No, sir. Apparently some superstar trainer type is riding across our great country with 40lbs strapped to his svelte body, carrying a kindergarten student if you will, to raise awareness and funds for a wellness program at the Hospital for Sick Kids here in TO as well as inspire those to lead a healthier lifestyle. Brock Picken was the only one featured in the piece, but he's taking on the venture with Marta Kasprzyszak, both of whom are sports and fitness enthusiasts with Brock also working as a personal trainer. For them to take an interest in the health and well-being of younger generations is remarkable and the way in which they're doing it is interesting. They hope to springboard the project into a naton-wide fitness program and hope to spread the positive message about health and wellness. So I thought I'd help them out. Find out more about their ride here.

Childhood obesity scares the bejezus outta me and I'm always happy to hear about people wanting to do anything about it.

I agree, it's great to hear something besides gloom and doom about this issue. Now we've got to get KIDS moving too and not just grown-ups.

Sounds like the Hospital for Sick Kids would be a really worthy cause.

I am de-lurking. I too am glad he is fighting the fight. It is so sad to see kids having to struggle with this issue. I am enjoying your blog. Congrats on reaching and maintaining your goal. I hope to be there someday!

Child obesity is becoming quite the issue. There is so much garbage out there directed at kids and the pressure from peers can be overwhelming.
I think it has a lot to do with parenting and teaching your children how to be/eat healthy. It's so convenient to go through the drive through on your way home from work but the alarming rate of childhood obesity is soooo scary! Parents need to step it up. If Kate (Jon & Kate Plus 8 - TLC show) can do it with 8 kids....there's no excuse!
