Help a mouse out...

Both of your parents are celebrating birthdays this weekend. They are modest, humble people who don't ask for much in this world except the love and affection of their children in celebration of milestones and special holidays. But birthdays, anniversaries, hallmark holidays often come with gifts and cards. What would YOU get for a .... Mother - late 50s, obsessed with her beautiful granddaughters, still takes pictures on film, sews, voracious reader, very religious, completely loveable. Father - late 50s, so cute you want to put him in your pocket, joe-camper, truck-lover, trying to improve his health. Thoughts? Ideas? Muchos Gracias.

Not sure what the budget is but some "couple" gift ideas:
- gift certificate to a nice dinner
- Night in a B&B in a cute small town (like Elora or Fergus)
- tickets to a Caliegh
- family portraits

Running out of ideas. Hope whatever you get them makes them happy (which I'm sure is anything!). Have a great weekend!

For your mom - I'd get you, and your brothers...(I don't think you have a sister right?) together and have a picture taken (not necessarily formal or anything) with your neices and give that to her in a frame.

For your dad...here is what I got my dad for fathers day that he LOVES and you described your dad just like I would mine...don't know if they sell UA in canada though...here is the link...he loves it because it is so light and comfortable in the heat, but then he feels 'cool' b/c it is UA and everyone tells him how much they like it :)

i was going to suggest pretty much the same thing... gift certificate for a nice dinner somewhere (perhaps their fav restaurant) or a GC for a bookstore where they could both find something of interest... personally - i just take my mom out to dinner and then get her a nice bunch of flowers - we're not so much into the 'gift' thing... :o)

I'm also not big on giving or getting stuff. Lately, I've been making donations in people's names to organizations that they support. For instance, for Christmas we bought school supplies for children in a developing country. This made perfect sense for my MIL since she's a teacher by training and the charitable organization is religious (as is my MIL). Another gift I do often is to adopt an animal from World Wildlife Fund.

Right now I'm big on the digital frame uploaded with family pics.

At our CVS stores (and on sites like Shutterfly) you can upload pictures and make a photo album bound like a book. They are so beautiful. Gather a bunch of pictures of the grandbabies and the kids...mom will LOVE it.

I have a horrible time buying for my dad. For his 80th, I put together a scrapbook of memories and pictures sent by friends and family. That one took some planning, but man, he can't stop telling me how much he loves it.
