Things have changed...

I came to dread conferences or training sessions at my old job. The spread put on at places was always too rich for my liking, portions were far too large and food was always within reach. So when I was told I was going to go to one two days this week I was not looking forward to it (more so having to sit in a room away from communication tools for eight hours ...with a bunch of communicators/educators - how they didn't go mad is beyond me!). But really I was scared about the food. So much so that I purposely avoided coming early for the breakfast that was to be served. ...but I couldn't avoid the lunch. I waited until the line had thinned out and made my way out to it, afraid to see what fat laden menu had been prepared for us... and was pleasantly surprised to see an artichoke heart and veggie dish, orzo and veggie salad, caesar salad (could have been worse, frankly) and the teeniest pizza. A giant tray of fresh fruit and some little cake was for dessert. BUH? I was super impressed that we were actually eating somewhat healthy. Where were my giant chaffing dishes of indistinguishable meats and starches? Or towers of sandwiches slathered with butter AND mayonnaise? TOTALLY CONFUSED! But then they rolled in the cookies in the afternoon and my faith in the human race was restored. ...until tomorrow when I'm forced to choke it back again :( my apologies for not keeping up with your blogs though. I'll get around to it tomorrow afternoon. the 95 unread feeds sitting there right now is just far too scary and it's past my bed time :)

I hear ya on this one. Those dinner/lunch meetings are the hardest for me! You never know what you're going to get. People don't seem to understand food and that which is unhealthy/fatty/etcetera. They have the stupidity to think a tuna sub from subway is HEALTHY!!! With all of that full fat mayo? Are they insane???

Well colour me impressed! I am actually a little happier today having read that for some weird reason...maybe because that's showing that maybe the healthy movement really is moving mainstream :-)

Ugh, conferences and other gatherings of businesspeople are evil on the food front. I had a serious run-in with a cookie tray a couple of weeks ago at a conference J and I attended on the weekend (all about walking, ee!).

For me the worst is when I'm doing usability testing and am locked in a dark room for 10 hours with catered meals. Not only can I not control what food we have, and the fact that it's there in front of me all day, I also want to eat more of it because I feel like I'm hibernating in a cave. *shudders*

*laughs* that is usually my number one fear of things like that...me and Danny are so different, when we go to big 'dos or something like that he gets nervous because there are so many people around and I am nervous because of what they are serving!!

That is fantastic though! Glad they restored order with the cookies...otherwise I would think you had been drugged or something...

That is so good. I hate having super heavy lunches at things like that b/c you just want to nap after instead of learn/contribute!

What blows my mind at those things is HOW OFTEN they bring out food. It seems like an hour after breakfast there are cookies and pastries, and then an hour and a half after that is lunch, etc....They give you no time to actually be hungry and the people are acting like ravenous vultures and attacking he free food. People lose all manners when there is free food. Yuck.

I find that meeting food has really started to make good changes and truthfully I enjoy the afternoon cookie :)
