Big Bad Buffets

Well, as you may have read on Sarah's blog, we're off to yet another GDT GTG tonight. This one is at Kama for a little Indian buffet. *sigh* Oddly enough, I get an email from Runner's World with an article on portion distortion yesterday. Coincidence? Makes ya wonder. I've written before about how my family are buffet junkies. Birthdays, anniversaries, Friday nights - whenever they wanted to get their feed on. And the type of food served up didn't matter either nor the time of day. Breakfast? Brunch? Chinese? Italian? BRING IT ON! But the stats around eating and over eating, especially can be kind of scary. They say we eat 92 per cent of what we serve ourselves and we can't account for most of the calories on those plates. WONDERFUL! And they say at restaurants, low lighting and tables with more people increase your chances of packing more in... hmm...I believe there are about 20 of us tonight and it doesn't look like it's brightly lit. Je suis le screwed. But wait - a saving grace! I have NO CLUE ABOUT INDIAN FOOD! HUZZAH! Last time I had it, my tummy was in knots for hours after so I will most probably stick to rice, meat with out crazy sauces and anything with veggies. And hopefully they have small plates. And Sarah - I fully expects smacks too!

OOh scary...I hate buffets!!!

But it sounds like you have it all figured out nicely!!!

Have a blast tonight (and hopefully you, nor Sarah, go home with bruises!)

Well there's your ticket right there - the image of physical pain should do it! lol

I've never been to an Indian buffet before either, but I'd imagine there'll be some sort of shrimp as well which I would dive into...mmmmm

Have fun girls!

I must say I was a little surprised to see that a WW GTG had been planned at a) an Indian restaurant and b) a restaurant with a buffet, but I guess in the end it's all about learning how to find the healthy options wherever you are.

Hope you have fun. Oh, and when I suggested healthy Indian for Tuesday, I COMPLETELY forgot that tonight was at Kama (and didn't know that you don't really like Indian)! I don't mind changing the restaurant at all if you want.

I did find it funny that a WW gathering is at a buffet too...

Mer - I'm living on the edge! You'll just have to help me order, is all :P

Ha, okay. I hope you'll like this place -- last time I ordered their sampler plate (pic), and it had brown rice, spinach curry, potatoes, a little cup of daal (lentils), and pappadums. I'll probably get it again, it was so yummy. I don't remember it being particularly spicy, nor oily at ALL, so hopefully it will be okay on your tummy.

Looking forward to it!

I wasn't sure if you read pastaqueen's blog or not.

Here is a link to her recent posting on a marathon movie:

It might be coming to an area near you.

How about this to help limit yourself: Think of all the hands touching the food and all the stinky mouths breathing over it!

Ahhh. Buffets scare me. I have to leave a buffet without several visits to the toilet afterwards.
