Dear Santa...

I was going to write you a letter to let you know what I wanted for Christmouse (and perhaps give ideas to dearest Keith who apparently is stumped as to what to get me this year :P). But Santa, I don't know that I am THAT deserving of any presents this year... I have been a bad, bad, BAD mouse. I have not been faithfully taking pictures of my food in the last three days. On Friday, I got so busy that I forgot to eat breakfast and didn't have time to take a lunch, giving myself a killer headache. Then went out and had a yummy turkey dinner with my Dad, Syd and Erin. Thankfully, Erin rescued my from most of my potatoes and relieved me of my soup (that kid - she's so good to me), but did not help me with the heaps of gravy poured on top of the festive bird. Then Saturday, still feeling the nasty effects of the headache, I made myself chocolate chip pancakes and watched my MTV in my jammies, neglecting the dust bunnies on the stairs and the piles of laundry in my room. I did not run, I did not go to the gym, did not collect $200 - I did sweet eff all. Well, actually that's a lie. I eventually got showered and dressed to brave the Eaton Centre only to promptly return home after visiting two stores. Do I at least score points for braving the beginning of a horrible snowstorm getting there? Meh - I'd probably lose them anyway. I ended up eating a big plate full of gnocchi, broccoli and sundried tomato pesto, not really watching my portion but keeping more of a watchful eye on the Habs/Leafs game that night. I had to make sure I remembered the plays in case I was ridiculed later, you know? Come on Santa - I should receive sainthood for just being a Canadiens fan in TO and putting up with the abuse!! But then the abuse I put my body through yesterday....sigh. My friend Joe invited me over to his house for breakfast, which I think was just a ploy to make me go to the store to buy him milk so he didn't have to brave the huge snow banks, but I went nonetheless. Who can pass up free food served up by a nice guy (who lives right next to Starbucks)? Until I saw the size of the pancake he made me - it literally covered my plate. He then tried to add hashbrowns and scrambled eggs to it and it was then I was thankful that I wore elastic waist pants. But it got worse.... Again, no running, no gym, but some jumping over snow banks, and off to home to stuff ourselves into party clothes to head over to the house of my favourite uncles, Jim and Brian, for their annual Christmas gathering, where I would stuff myself again. We will not discuss the copious amounts of turkey, black forest tarts, brie, and baba ganoush on pitas that were consumed. I tried to stick to that veggie tray, I swear. But then I was forced to eat a blasted fern tart and that was the end of it. Why I ate the pasty, dry, sugar-filled thing is beyond me. Oh wait - I know why - Irish family guilt. Thanks Uncle Jim! So you see Santa, I don't know that I really deserve any gifts this year, unless you want to find me something that will keep me motivated to stay on track, keep my arse a running and cooking new and exciting things so I won't be tempted to stray far. Or you could just find me a Wii :P Love ya Big Red! ~ Mouse

God bless the Canadiens! Saku is my hero! I feel your pain as a Habs fan living in the T dot, being a Toronto transplant to Montreal myself.

Sounds like you had an adventure in food this weekend. As John Lennon used to say, "life is what happens when you're busy making other plans."

I don't know if I could resist black forest tarts ...

I love this time of year but I hate it too. For us humans who love food - it makes it tough to say no no no!

Ah well, today is a new day!

yikes! your friend makes big pancakes...you probably could have shipped half off to me and still been full...don't worry, you will remember to do so next time ;)

I'm sure Santa forgives for a couple of "off" days after all you've been a good little mouse way more often than you were a naughty little mouse :0)
