This meal plan was brought to you by....

As a PAYING member visiting the weightwatchers.ca site, I find the banner ads flashing at me on a daily basis when I go to check the boards or track my food more than a little annoying. Having services, sites and, even worse, treats, paraded in front of me is not helpful and makes me wonder why I have to pay for such a service in the first place. But then I get funny little e-mails in my spammy mail that let me know that the portion-control and calorie-wise kings at lean cuisine have jumped on the make a meal plan bandwagon and are sending it out en masse to the public in the hopes of selling a few more frozen meals and slimming the population. But it's sooooooooo much more than that. They're rewarding people with trinkets too! oooooooooooooooooh! ahhhhhhhhhhhhh! So I poke around this site for a bit, because I'm a curious mouse and all, to discover if you read some articles, take their hokey polls and download some meal plans (that give you a lean cuisine A DAY...sometimes two) plus two other SENSIBLE meals and snacks (and pushing more of their brands), you earn these nifty points (a la sparkpeople. yes, i've poked around there too but it's so damn confusing). You reach some unattainable point value one day and you too can be the owner of one snazzy little water bottle belt. oooooooooooooooooh! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Whatever. It's super generic with their wellness, activity and nutrition section. ALTHOUGH, I do have to give them kudos for really building their plans around the food guide and even linking to eatracker.ca, health canada's tracker that let's you know how you're hitting and missing your daily targets. Too bad the food guide did change a little while ago and we need to follow it based on age and gender so not everyone is going to get the right things from your cookie cutter plans, kids (which are only in the 1800 and 2000 calorie variety!). I for one cannot live on lean cuisines alone. Sorry. I like real food and those puny things aren't going to cut it save the occasional office lunch and even then they're accompanied by a whackadoo of raw veggies because the product is seriously lacking in it. But at least you tried to offer your consumers a way to look after what they put in their bodies and sure made it look pretty. But still, we're pushing Nestle product here and nothing more. Perhaps Nestle and WW should have a talk - Nestle will stay out of the weight loss advice business and WW will stay out of the food business. I think it would be a happy world, don't you think?

So true- there's a definite conflict of interest.

I don't think I could survive on frozen meals once or twice a day! I like real food and cooking and vegetables.

Nestle and WW should definitely have a little talk :P

I hardly ever eat frozen entrees. I have them on hand for in case times of panic.

I agree about those ads. Ads are normally shoved down your throat when it's free.

i'm a big fan of lean cuisine meals but more so in the winter, when i prefer a warm lunch... i do tend to get sick of them after a while though, so i'll switch back and forth...

i think for the average person, that may not have the money or access to plans like we do, their 'advice' is okay... :o)

Those forzen dinners usually have enough sodium to induce a coma in a small animal. I try to stay away from them as much as possible but the odd time, they are good for a quick and convenient lunch.

Posting treat ads on the WW seems like a double negative doesn't it? Oooh the world of advertising!
