putting myself first

today was a good day. despite my attempt to make it my best day and a crazy PB, I made a small one and knocked two minutes off of my half time, an accomplishment of which I am quite proud. I started off with the 1:55 bunny and kept up with him for 30 minutes, but then encountered tummy and knee pain. I remembered what Matt Norminton said yesterday, the super duper Canadian marathoner. He pulled himself out of Chicago and chose to race Toronto. He told us to always listen to our bodies. So I did. I backed off, ran just a bit slower and ENJOYED my run. The course is a lot quieter than Scotia without the lively entertainment, but it does have good pockets of crowds going straight down the centre of the city and I even spied one of the more famous GDTers, Ms. Runny herself who was out cheering on her hubby. I saw some of the guys and gals from my clinic run by me and it made me happy and a bit proud too as we worked so hard as a group, especially when Alison came by, tried to high five me and I told her to go on without me, as she was the speed bunny today :) But the best part was rounding Queen's Park Circle to see Keith and Jeep. Their smiles and hollers meant the world to me and was worth slowing down a bit more for the photo op and finishing above my goal of 2:05. Family will always come first and there will always be more halfs to run. It was a good end to a great running season. Thanks Sam & Cindy - You're both amazing leaders. Thank you for helping me test my limits and help me reach my goals :)

you should have seen the next pic, where i chased her down and told her 'I'M NOT FINISHED WITH YOU!' she looks REALLY HAPPY in that one.

if only someone had taken a picture of me scrambling to put my phone away, pull out the camera, and proceed to spill my americano on my hand. OY!
