of rings and things

i know Jen has posted a lot about her bling dilemmas and I've had my share of them too...well, not the bling part.

But I've never had fancy pants rings to lose, or have rings of real value or sentiment to wear so when my cheapos go flying down the street when I throw up my hands, I cringe but at the same time don't feel too badly if I can't find them in a few minutes (luckily I haven't had that problem).

I could have them sized down, but again, two of them are pretty cheap. The two I wear on my left hand probably cost me a whopping 20 bucks and one of them was actually a gag engagement ring from a family friend when everyone in our circle seemed to be getting hitched. But that's probably part of the reason I'm not willing to part with them either.

On my right hand I wear a claddagh ring. Lynn mentioned this before as her hubby-to-be has requested one for his wedding ring (awesome idea) but it's tradition in my family to have one and I have since I was eight years-old. Actually, I've had about four or five of them. I've lost them, broke them, bent them, etc.

Well, with losing weight and all, I've had issues with mine. The first time I lost weight I had to have it sized down from a 10 to an 8.5. This time I couldn't have it sized down again because the last time it made the ring too fragile and it bent quite a bit over the years (the thing is an odd shaped oval now).

So for my birthday this year I requested a birthstone ring to makeup for the rings I cannot wear anymore and found the perfect solution...

I got me a new claddagh with my birthstone, a peridot, smack in the middle made especially pour moi by the claddagh house here in Toronto. I finally have a ring with lots of meaning (more so than just the traditional Irish story - it came from my family that means the world to me) and a little bit of bling. and it's the right size (7.25) so I won't be losing it down the street any time soon.

and the green matches my eyes - hooray!

Don't i have cute little man hands?

I love the ring! I work in healthcare and am always afraid of losing my "good" rings when I take off my gloves....if and when I ever get married, I want a claddagh ring with a little diamond. But hey, maybe if 35 comes and goes with no prospects on the horizons, I'll get one for myself anyways!

I love your ring! And what a great manicure!

I also loved the comment you left on my gym teacher post! I love it when people are so straightforward and honest and say exactly what they mean... in a slightly sarcastic manner. lol You rock!

Hey! You do have nice hands. Also, I bought my husband's wedding band (a Celtic Knot design) at Claddagh House.

I was thinking the same thing "cute hands! great manicure!" and then I read "no manicure" boo you...half my nails are broken off on most days and on a good week my nail polish goes a day without chipping (hence why i do them so often!!) boo Marie!! (but yay marie at the same time, cause I can't bring myself to boo you whole heartedly!!)

I LOVE your claddagh ring, and you must have some pretty eyes to match the stone!!! Good for you for buying yourself some bling!

Love it! Everyone should have a ring that's sentimental to them besides a wedding/engagement ring. I love it! I'm jealous of your nails too!
