I'd be less concerned about tank tops...

and more concerned about low-rise pants. Yesterday a bit of a kerfuffle broke out about tank-tops and chubby chicks and how the two shouldn't mix. Well, if that were true, I wouldn't have my before pic above. Crop tops on the other hand, I am against. No one needs to see tummies hanging out at any time. Mine especially. But this has less to do with short shirts and more to do with low-rise pants. Like today. I'm again getting away with wearing jeans to work, day three this week (some days it's good to be me, ya know), but the combo of a shorter styled golf shirt and lower-rise pants makes for my little pooch to make its presence known to the world a little too frequently...and cause evil Kris to let me know what colour my underwear are today. Makes me incredibly self-conscious because although it appears as though I can pull all of this stuff off, I can't. That awful flap just barely hides itself in there and I'm always afraid it's going to pop out in the middle of the street. It's just an odd contrast to the upper part of my stomach which is flat and almost defined to the point where a crop top is probably a possibility...if I lost my mind or something.... But this just tells you that fat, average, thin, comfortable, whatever - shirts, pants, clothing that shows off too much skin just isn't appropriate. It's not a weight thing, it's a decency thing...something I'm struggling with today :D I could look tasteful and covered up at 205lbs but apparently I can't keep my clothes on at 137.2lbs. So let the big girls wear tank-tops if they want. At least she can walk proudly with her head held high. I'll be the one straggling behind her constantly yanking up her drawers.

Ok, I for one, am one of the big girls who CANNOT bring herself to wear a tank top!!! I hate showing my arms PERIOD!!

And I could be a friggin triple zero and I wouldn't show my tummy. It's not a lack of confidence or anything I just don't like showing that much skin...I like to leave things to the imagination...not that I would wear a mu mu to the beach or anything!!!

I giggled at the thought of your pooch jumping out in the middle of the street!!!

I feel your pain. This was especially a problem when I was a bit bigger and the styles were the shorter shirts and low pants (thank god for long tank tops to go beneath anything now a days!). Especially when I'd buy cheap shirts that would shrink shorter, or I'd gain a few pounds and stretch a shirt out wider and thus shorter. nice.

LOL on the low-rise. I really don't 'get' them, being from the pants worn to your waist generation. However, it seems very difficult to buy any nice pants that aren't low-rise anymore. Thank goodness for belts.

Crop tops are just wrong - like why does anyone need to show off their stomach if they are not on stage or in a music video (even then - really).

Too funny about your outfit - I hate when that stuff happens! Good Luck keeping it all in!

I've never understood the problem with a bigger girl wearing a tank top. Its just a shirt ffs :P. I think its more about how you present yourself then what you're wearing!

Ps. If I work my ass off and achieve a Jillian Michaels-style tummy I will show that thing off in the middle of winter, appropriate or not appropriate :P

i found that this summer i had NO PROBLEM showing off my stomach - like if my shirt went up a little, great. but that's finally - after never ever doing that before in my adult or even teenage life.

but you're right - for general life... work, shopping, doing whatever... everyone even skinny girls should keep it (stomach) covered.

The only downfall I've found to having a smaller booty is that my pants don't stay up the way they used to. Just the other night I had several friends poking fun at me cuz my panties were sticking out the back of my pants. Such is life. Sometimes you just can't win!
