Things I am sick of hearing/reading

I'm feeling ranty today...and we all know I tell it like it is so you would expect nothing less than the blog that follows
  • "it's summer and i have such a hard time staying OP" - for the love of pete! this is the best time to be OP! summer makes me crave veggies, salads and bbq meat like nobody's business. one would think that would be a good way to stay OP. If you haven't mastered portion control yet, therein lies the problem...
  • "i'm staying OP MOST of the time, going OVER on weekends but journaling EVERYTHING and my scale ISN'T moving" - kudos kiddo for journaling every bite, but if you're still going over by umpteen points every week, you're not OP and that's why the scale isn't budging in the direction you want it to. I won't begin to understand the science behind the program (mostly because I'm a glorified English major and science makes my head hurt), but apparently they did a lot of research to come up with the whole Points thingymabobber (YAY j-school!) and that's why they only give us those X amount of points per day plus our 35 flex (assuming we're on flex). Going over it on a consistent basis would be in effect not following weight watchers and blowing your hard earned money.
  • "maybe I need to try another diet" - diet, diet...I think I tried one of those once. I had to have a shake for breakfast and lunch and eat a sensible dinner or some bullshit like that. What a lark that was! I like eating, thanks. That's what always kills me when I tell people I follow Weight Watchers - they get confused with JC and the like, thinking I had to buy pre-packaged food and eat sawdust to shrivel down to the size I am and are astonished to see I can eat at a McDonald's with them (not before twitching and gagging first, of course).
  • "i'm icky and fat" - i get the whole perception thing, i do it too but my scale tells me otherwise. So you don't like a picture of yourself - GET OVER IT. I'm HEALTHY, you're healthy. We're NOT overweight anymore. Someone can say something crass and call me fat and i really couldn't care. The only thing that bothers me now is if someone tells me I have an eating disorder. Watch me turn ten shades of red and steam pour out of my ears. We need to realize that FIVE extra pounds is OK. The fact that we eat GOOD food is better for us in the LONG RUN. Incorporating HEALTHY activity into our daily routines is KICKASS. There's much more to this than outward appearances. If you're just looking for validation, get it elsewhere. And perhaps look into seeing a shrink - seriously. I worry about people and your mental health is soooooooooo important!
  • "I'm up but it's TOM so it's to be expected" - I apologize in advance to Jeep for this one and everyone else, frankly. I have prided myself on being a TOM-free blog but seriously! I'd love to know what makes people go way the heck up because I've been on the program for two years and have never had a gain of more than a half a pound during those times so someone has some essssssssplaining to do.
Now, I need excuses to get out of a date with a 20 year-old tonight. GO!

I hear ya! Especially with the TOM one...I read/hear that All.The.Time. Maybe I don't experience major TOM symptoms, but it just seems to be another chapter in the "book of excuses" that so many people pull from. Get over it, right?! :) Thanks for the list.

I have found the ww's boards littered with this stuff for a few months now. IF YOU STAY OP AND ARE ACCOUNTABLE YOU WILL LOSE. Why don't people understand this. I feel like people who have a hard time staying OP just really don't want or aren't ready to lose the weight. WW's is simple if you follow it.

THANK YOU for the TOM statement. I've never understood that either -- I see no difference! Then again, I'm not a big PMSer at all, so maybe different people have different reactions.

I'm a lifetimer, having lost and kept off 30 pounds for over a year. I agree with *almost* everything you posted. I have to disagree about TOM. I know a lot of people use it as an excuse to hide being off program, but I do, in fact, gain anywhere between one pound and three pounds in A DAY when I start my period while staying completely on program. The gain usually hangs around for a day or two. When I was losing, that gain sometimes occurred on a weigh-in day, but I knew that the next week, it'll be gone and take a friend or two. :)

marie said...

er..."one to three pounds in a day" so you're weighing yourself twice daily or everyday?? - you lost me.

because then i could play devil's advocate and spout off like everyone else who says "WW says we should only weigh ourselves once a week...blah blah...preach preach..."

but i won't. you seem nice and i step on the scale every day :) next time don't be afraid to leave your name too! congrats on the 30lbs!!!!!

i know this is YOUR blog, but you rarely have a positive post all you do is bitch and complain. are you an unhappy person?

I agree with what you said too, except for TOM, I think that is way different for a lot of people. Personally I can see up to 7lbs higher over the 5 days and then sometime during that time, BAM back down the 7lbs and don't tell me to drink up, my god 5 litres of water a day, I do drink up...

and I weigh once a day, and only bought a scale in when I reached goal.

I'm shocked someone would ever think of you as negative!! what the hell is that about?

marie said...

thanks for your perspective shirls. you're right - everyone is different and i guess i'm just lucky in that respect.

as for me being negative, i believe someone is taking my comments too personally and using the "anonymous" commenting feature to their benefit today...

perhaps they should read over ALL of my posts & comments and then look at everything they've ever written as well...

"ive counted back at least 12 posts in a row that are a bitch or complain. it's ok if you are unhappy, you can get help you know."

ah - looks like you forgot to hide your name when hurling insults this time though. good call on deleting it before everyone else could see it. i'm sure they'd be just as angry as I am.

call me a bitch all you want too. I don't call you names for your posts. if you don't like them, don't read them. don't look for any support from me any time soon though.

(Hi. I'm the chick who left the pic of the mousey Marc Jacobs soes this week)

I don't think it's negative! And if people don't like it, STOP READING! WTF?

Corinne (PhitNPhat Training -- www.phitnphat.wordpress.com) had a post similar to this a few weeks ago. I think it's great -- enough excuses people!

that's fine, you have never really been one for supportive comments towards me, i must be one of the ones that annoys you greatly, which wouldn't surprise me. you must be all over your comments as soon as they come in, good on ya. it's true tho, i wasn't trying to be mean but you really haven't been very joyous lately, it kinda was bringing me down, and that is why i have chose not to read your complaints, i mean blog anymore.

I don't know if you were referring to me with regards to going over on weekends and the scale not budging....if you were, just to clarify, I understand we get x amounts of points in order to lose and that I can't expect the standard "1-2lbs per week", but my bitterness is that I am eating SO much better than pre-WW plus working out, so even if I do go over slightly on the weekends, I should see some sort of results.

BUT it's your blog and you can write whatever the heck you want so no hard feelings here!

oo-hoo hoo.
If you don't call it out Marie, who's going to? :)

I with you on the list, but with everyone else in comments who says TOM is crazy different for everyone.
Molly and I can be doing the same exact thing, and TOM rolls around and she drops, I gain.
weird. and annoying.

Mel said...

I hear you girl especially with that last one. I too have never fluxuated more than a pound during the week so I don't know maybe we are the weird ones!!! It also drives me crazy when people go on and on about how they want to lose weight and then go eat a donut or two. Obviously they don't want it that bad! I love it when you rant!!

Hey Mouse - good post. I have to agree with it all except the TOM thing. I have always, my whole life, even when I was thin before I gained weight, gained 5-7 lbs during TOM. My body even stubbornly starts retaining water days before, all during and a few days after it ends. My body even goes as far as starting to cramp days before and lasting for days after. All during that time of staying entirely OP and drinking water, I have a 5-7 lb gain on the scale. When all of that 7-10 days of PMS, TOM and post crap finally subsides and I am finally pain free, the weight is gone too. You are truly lucky that this doesn't happen to you though! I wish!!! Just keep in mind it is totally legit and any dr. will vouch for that! :)

First off - How DARE someone pick on my Mouse! Not happy about that at all :O|

Secondly - for the first time ever, I'm going to have to disagree with you Marie. I have huge fluctuations during TOM, last week was 7 freakin' lbs! Although there are weeks I pretty much STS too.

Not sure if I'm more amused by the posts or the comments afterwards. Becky was right - you are funny. Think I'll need to check in on you more often. I'm still in losing phase, and also don't think I've ever mentioned TOM on my post. Shame on you for doing so. haaahaaha.
