I'm the queen of the sidewalk

*ding ding* I don't like when i hear that noise over the sweet sounds of tool, slipknot or alexisonfire...and it's rare that i can even hear them because i like my music LOUD. but there's always some cow on a bike in the Tdot who forgets our city bylaws and is dinging like a ding dong behind my bouncing ass, announcing his presence on the paved walkway and telling me to haul my fine ass out of the way. uh...not without a fight, my little friend. I'm 13.18km into this 14km run and it's 7:31 a.m. (yes, I checked) I already struggled to get out of bed this morning at 5:30 (which then became 6a.m.) and had a fight with myself and my stomach several times (i now understand your urge to vomit the other day, Amy) just to get to this point and just blew off my last walk to finish and NOW you want ME to step aside so YOU can have the right of way? YOU BELONG ON THE GOSH DARN MOTHERLOVING ROAD! I actually screamed that at him as he went by. He looked really puzzled. I fought the urge to kick his tire only because I knew it meant I'd hurt my foot and I wouldn't be able to finish my run. How sad is that?

YOU ROCK! Give him hell! I'm so proud of you for actually shouting that at him - I hate bikes on the sidewalk!!! GRRR!!! Good for you for getting your ass out of bed and going for your run in spite of feeling so poorly - you amaze me!!!

Every time I see a runner out running early in the a.m. I cheer them on to myself (and DBF) in our motorized little car as I drive by (secretly wishing that was me). Next time I will think to myself that that's you out there....the person might look at me funny, but I'll give em an enthusiastic thumbs up!

Bikers? They can't win, not here anyway. If they're out in traffic where they are supposed to be, they always slow everything up and tick everyone off and you're afraid you'll hit them cause we don't have any damn bike lanes! If they are on the sidewalk, they tick the pedestrians off too!

so true - biker can't win! :(
as a biker and a runner I feel for both sides... not to defend the guy that passed you, but did he just ring so that you're "aware" that he's behind you? :) I'm just saying... because I do that sometime too, when I'm on the bike (on a designated pathway, of course) And I also wanted to add thanks for the inspiration to run!!! :)

I'm totally the type to yell at drivers, cars and bikes. I can totally relate!

That is hilarious. It's funny because I had the same experience yesterday as I was walking my puppy down the sideway. The sidewalk is clearly marked with a big sign that says no bikes and this guy still *ding dinged* me and my puppy. I didn't hear him till it was too late and he was angry. Stoopid ppl i say.

It's posts like this that make me glad I live in New Brunswick. The sidewalks are never crowded enough for a traffic jam! Although that is probably because the percentage of people who are actual fit and go outside for walk/runs is slim! It's nice for those of us who do though as we have the whole sidewalk to ourselves.

AH! I feel your pain. The path I run on (when I -ahem-attempt to do so) has a bike lane and a walk/run lane. One day I came arount a corner and two bikers almost hit me in THE WALK LANE. grrrr.

First of all - you are hilarious!
Second of all - so good of you with that run this morning!
Third of all - I just love that you have the same taste in music as me - there aren't many females that do!
Lastly - I freakin love your blog!

Especially if there's a bike lane, the guy belongs on the road.

And it's one thing if it's a really gruesome stretch of road with aggressive drivers and you get an anxious bicyclist on the sidewalk who KNOWS he's really not supposed to be there and so is trying to skooch around you really carefully without getting in your way--but it's quite another thing to have some a--hole try to bully you out of the way!

Great blog by the way, lots of really amusing posts. And wow, what an amazing accomplishment in exceeding all your weight loss goals! I imagine you must be such an inspiration to so many people.
