old mirror, new reflections

So I'm having a bad morning. Crappy weather + forgotten meds last night = awesome headache this morning. Loverly. Needless to say I was late this morning and rummaging around looking for my running gear at the last minute and trying not to pass out at the same time. I walk a block down the street and suddenly I realize that...uh...nature is calling. eeek. Luckily, I live next to Ryerson Campus so I duck into the Rogers Communications Building, the building I pretty much called home for four years when I did my undergraduate degree. Since school is out already, the place is a ghost town and I'm pretty much unnoticed, which is nice. I remember thinking it was weird when strangers would be in the washroom when I was in school there. Tres creepy. As I go to leave, I check myself over in the big arse mirror next to the door and it all hits me. Seven years ago, another girl stood in front of this mirror wearing an extra-large men's red coat from the Gap and men's size 40 khakis. That girl isn't the one staring back now. Made my bottom lip tremble a bit. Then I checked out my ass NOW and grinned :P So every time I have a "fat" day, I think I need to come visit this mirror and try and search out that other reflection, because life isn't as bad as I make it out to be. Well, except the whole not pursuing journalism past school thing...but let's not go there, ok? You guys have read my writing. Enough said! :)

Wow, what an awesome moment! You just made me tear up. I bet any Ryerson student would just wonder who the hot gal with the cute ass is so they could ask her out, anyway. :P

I came by way of Paige's blog-and I have to say that though I haven't read any of your posts yet (but def plan to!) you inspire me.

Your before and after pics are wonderful, and it makes me think "I can do that too."

Amazing!!

That is so cool. Crazy how much can change with just a little hard work!

Isn't that AWESOME!? I had a similar experience at my Grandma's when I went to put on a sweatshirt I'd left there from the summer, when I was at my heaviest. I'd borrowed it from my plus size aunt but at the time it was just roomy and comfy enough to be cozy and oversized. Now, I swim in it and it's not even comfortable to have that much extra fabric around! :)

Good on ya! Enjoy the new you, and head back to that mirror. It's like the Mirror of Erised (not sure if you've read/seen Harry Potter or not)

Wow! What a great moment! You must feel so proud of yourself! I find that it's easy to forget how far you've come and then it all slams into you at once!
I hate it that we still have "fat" days after coming so far! Those days when NOTHING looks good on you and you feel like a blimp! Yuck!

Bravo Marie! I am starting to see these reflections myself now. It is so empowering! It sure does put it into perspective when we think we are having a "fat" day. What an excellent post!

Marie, what a great moment. :) You have come so far... and recognizing it in a different way now and then is wonderful.

Isn't it weird going back to school, period? I always feel like an outsider, like I don't belong anymore... and it makes me feel a bit empty.
