Look at Minnie Mouse over there....

...i heard that outside of my office. A strange but familiar voice. It was Kim, the assistant of one of the lawyers we work for. She had come to pick up a CD of some software and she was standing in the hallway with Li from my office. She's lost some weight in the last year too and looks GREAT! So she stops in and has a little chat with me about life and such. Apparently she's picked up running now too where last time she was only walking - AMAZING! We joke around about the two sweaters I'm wearing because I'm so freakin' cold. but then she goes and does it "....well look at you: it's because you're TOOO SKINNY! you're done losing weight, right? you're not losing anymore, right?" UGH!!!! I politely told her that yes, I'm done and I have no desire to go below 135. But she wouldn't stop. "I mean you do eat, right?" *blink* Say what? This is when I looked at poor Li, who was starting to look a bit nervous and embarrassed, and sighed. "Yes, I eat quite a lot, actually, just ask Li. Would you like to read my food journal here on my desk?" She didn't quite understand WHAT I had done to lose the weight up until this point so I had to explain the whole Weight Watchers thing to her, show her that I keep a print out of Canada's food guide in this food journal I keep on my desk and try to follow that more than anything now. I tried to tell her how the points work, blah blah blah... She looked at me a bit leery, like I was a part of some weird cult or not really believing me, still searching for signs of some hidden eating disorder. I am not of fan of having to constantly reassure people that I'm not looking to lose more weight. Maintenance is a tricky enough game as it is, trying to find the right amount of points to keep you in a healthy range. But when people start thinking you're not healthy when all you're doing is putting healthy things in you, doing healthy activities and trying to maintain a positive attitude, it's enough to push someone right off the deep end. Luckily, I told her she had to run a 5k with me - I think that's pay back enough :)

It's probably jealousy because you look better than she does. I'm curious, how did she lose her weight? I think of any weight loss plans out there, weight watchers is the best because it teaches you how to eat right for the rest of your life - no tricks or gimmicks. It's hard work and you did it. Don't let the haters get you down! You look fabulous darling!

she finally copped to Herbal Magic before she left. I wasn't impressed.

I have been getting the same type of reaction with some ladies too and coincidently I also work in a law firm. But the particular women I have gotten these types of comments from are more "motherly" than the jealous type. But in most cases, I think part of the comment comes from genuine concern because they have denial that a person can actually lose weight in a healthy way without starving themselves! Let's face it, most of these women are likely old school where a "diet" was some kind of fad where you felt deprived all of the time and never lasted.

like the other ladies have said, don't let it get you down. so many people are stuck in the "starve yourself to lose weight" diets and like angie said, they can't understand how you can lose weight while still eating yummy food! i hate all those commercials out there for herbal magic, la weightloss etc, that make you think you can lose 10/week but they don't mention that you have to take all these weird pills!! you look hot, just remember that!!!

I agree with this post and comments.
My step mom saw me lately , she lives in BC and I told her i was on maintenance, and she said, "o so now you can start eating!"
Crazy.
She did the Bernstein's thing, which i did in that past as well, which is crazy.

Bah, I HATE "the look"!!! So many people are leery of WW...and I don't get it (because they are usually advocates of, like you said, Herbal Magic or something) It's like yes, I am getting lots of dairy, lots of fruits and veggies, healthy food, but damn it, I still eat a freaking cheeseburger whenever I want to...how horrible of me!!! You're awesome Marie, I hope you always remember that!!!
